 Blog 
The Midwest Office, founded in 2007, is dedicated to:
 protecting the environment in the Midwestern Region,
 enhancing human, animal and plant ecologies,
 promoting the efficient use of natural  resources
 and
 increasing African American participation in the environmental movement.

                                                

       

  AAEA's main goals are to deliver environmental information and services directly into communities. We work to clean up neighborhoods by implementing toxics education, energy, water and clean air programs.  AAEA includes an African American point of view in environmental policy decision-making and resolves environmental racism and injustice issues through the application of practical  environmental solutions.  We are one of the nation's oldest African American-led environmental organizations.

  We welcome all races interested in working for improvements in the African American community.

James Mosley

 

As Founder and CEO, James Mosley brings over thirty years of government and environmental consulting experience to EnviroKinetics, Inc.  Mr. Mosley has over eight years of community and land use planning experience.  He began his career in planning with the Department of Metropolitan Development in Evansville, Indiana.  There he worked on zoning, land use and acquisition activities in the establishment of Urban Enterprise Zones along the Walnut Street Business Corridor.  Mr. Mosley relocated to Washington, D.C. in 1983, when he was offered to served an internship as a Legislative Assistant to Representative Frank McCloskey, 8th District, IN.

James went on to become a Senior Planner with the District of Columbia Office of Planning (DCOP).   Mr. Mosley managed the planning, zoning and development reviews for Wards Six and Seven in the District of Columbia. Mr. Mosley acquired substantial experience in the development of Ward Plans and Small Area Studies.  He served as DCOP’s Liaison for the East-of-the-River Development Zones program, where he coordinated community-based planning and commercial revitalization projects.

Mr. Mosley served as the Interagency Coordinator for DCOP.  In that capacity he coordinated the environmental review and analysis of D.C. government agencies’ program policies for consistency to the federal Comprehensive Plan for the National Capitol.  Later, Mr. Mosley was detailed to the D.C. Environmental Regulations Administration (ERA) where he successfully streamlined and combined all public education and awareness efforts under one outreach mechanism.  He also coordinated the first annual “Environmental Conference” sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the District of Columbia’s ERA.

He managed and coordinated soil and water conservation projects within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.  The Chesapeake Bay Program is a federal program enacted and funded by the U.S. Congress to promote sustainable development and improve water quality of the Chesapeake Bay drainage area.  He began as a Sub-basin Coordinator managing various urban watershed restoration projects along Watts Branch a major tributary of the Anacostia River in Washington, D.C.  He also promoted public education, awareness and participation on the Anacostia River watershed for the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin.

 Mr. Mosley introduced the Environmental Justice (EJ) vision to Evansville, Indiana when he co-established and managed the Environmental Resource Center (ERC) at Carver Community Organization.  The ERC was funded by the US EPA Office of EJ, Region 5 and promotes sustainable communities, energy conservation and environmental awareness to low income and minority residents.  Mr. Mosley established local environmental advisory committees/collaboratives and sponsored workshops utilizing resources from national associations in Washington, D.C., to provide technical assistance for local organizations addressing environmental issues in their neighborhoods.   In addition, Mr. Mosley developed the first Brownfields Redevelopment Work Plan for the Evansville Enterprise Association which led to the establishment of the City of Evansville’s current Brownfields Redevelopment program.

A native of Evansville, Mr. Mosley graduated from Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration and Minor in Real Estate.  Mr. Mosley attended graduate school at the University of Southern Indiana (formerly ISUE) where he worked towards his Masters of Public Administration.  He obtained his EPA Certification in Lead Assessment and Abatement for Contractors and Supervisors, in Baltimore, Maryland 1995 and is currently certified to conduct Lead Inspections, Assessments and Clearances.  Mr. Mosley also successfully completed the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators course offered at Ivy Tech State College in Evansville, Indiana.

James Mosley was elected and served four terms as an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner (ANC 6C07) between 1987 and 1995 in Washington, D.C.  He co-established and served on the State of Indiana Environmental Justice Advisory Committee.  He served as board member with the Vanderburgh County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Zoning and Land Use Committee of the Pigeon Creek Greenway Passage Advisory Board in Evansville, Indiana.  Mr. Mosley also served on the Citizens Advisory Committee of the Vanderburgh County Solid Waste Management District.

In Memoriam: Robert J. Knox

Bob Knox was a friend and inspiration to AAEA as he was to many other institutions and people all over the country. 

Robert J. Knox was a founding Deputy Director and former Acting Director of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Environmental Justice(OEJ). Mr. Knox was an engineer by training and he began his career in Region 4 as a manpower development specialist working on water related issues. He moved to Region 2 where he led manpower and training programs.

In the early 1980s he served as the Director of the Office of Civil Rights. Thereafter, he was the Hazardous Waste Ombudsman for OSWER. When the Office of Environmental Justice was formed in 1992, he served as the founding Deputy Office Director with Dr. Clarice Gaylord, then OEJ Director. Bob spent his last 12 years in EPA working on community engagement activities. Bob retired from EPA in December 2004. In his retirement, he began taking coursework toward a masters degree from Howard University's School of Divinity. He was also a former deacon at the Gethsemane Baptist Church.
